TRLA Releases New Video on International Child Abduction

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)’s Bi-National Project on Family Violence has released a new video to guide attorneys working on issues related to international child abduction.

“Help! He took my child to Mexico!” is a new thirty minute informational video that covers important topics including identifying potential abductors, preventing abduction, steps to take immediately after a child has been abducted, and how the Hague Convention can be used to reunite parents with their children. The video follows several TRLA clients who have used the legal system to fight successfully for the return of their children.

TRLA attorney and head of the Bi-National Project Pamela Brown uses her experience helping victims of domestic violence and fighting for the return of children to provide guidance in international abduction cases. According to Brown, the porous Texas –Mexico border provides a huge opportunity for any parent who wishes to abduct a child.

TRLA’s Bi-National Project has been helping parents prevent and fight international child abduction for more than ten years. During that time, the project has helped more than 300 parents prevent their child’s abduction or fight for their safe return.

With the information provided on this video, TRLA hopes to empower parents and their attorneys to keep families together and foster quick reunions.

Added Brown, “Once an abduction occurs, time is of the essence. It is important to act as quickly as possible.”

The video is available on DVD and in four parts on TRLA’s YouTube channel. To view the video online visit http://bit.ly/BinatDVD
