The Latest on the State Funding Battle

The Texas Access to Justice Foundation and Texas Access to Justice Commission have worked with elected officials from both parties to file six bills aimed at easing the current legal aid state funding crisis. As the session progresses, we’ll be keeping track of the status of the bills and the state funding battle on the TRLA Times.

The current status of the bills is as follows:

Creating a Judicial Access & Improvement Account
HB 2174 — Referred to Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence
SB 726 — Passed in committee; headed to the Senate floor

Increasing District Court Filing Fees
HB 2502 — Referred to Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence
SB 1085 — Referred to Jurisprudence

Creating a Consumer Assistance Fund
HB 2481 — Referred to Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence
SB 1524 — Referred to Finance; left pending in committee
