More Funding Cuts Coming

Yesterday the Legal Services Corporation announced that the House and Senate had reached a compromise for funding for legal aid programs for Fiscal Year 2012. Under the agreement, LSC organizations would receive a total of $348 million, a decrease of 14.8% for funds used to provide access to justice to low-income clients.

According to the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the new funding measures would result in an estimated loss of $4.8 million to help low-income Texans with their civil legal needs.

LSC’s press release notes that the final vote for legal aid funding should take place this week.
