Texas RioGrande Legal Aid was proud to welcome a group of students from the University of Texas School of Law to the Rio Grande Valley in early January. The students were participating in the fifth annual Pro Bono in January trip to help low-income Texans with their legal needs.
As part of their trip, the students helped TRLA at wills clinics in Hidalgo and Cameron counties. Between both clinics, the students helped 133 low-income residents of the Rio Grande Valley finalize their wills. The clinics are a collaboration between TRLA, UT Law School, and the South Texas Civil Rights Project.
TRLA helped coordinate visits to the local probate court and a meeting with Judge Homer Garza for the students as well.
A special thanks goes out to those students who took time for their holiday schedules to join us for these efforts. Additional thanks to the Cameron County Bar Association, Hidalgo County Bar Association, and more than 20 pro bono volunteers who joined us at the clinics and helped make the week a success.
