Two of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)’s local pro bono programs will receive the Pro Bono Service Award from the State Bar of Texas in recognition of being self-sustaining programs that motivate private attorneys to provide pro bono services to the poor.
The Hidalgo County Community Justice Program (CJP) and San Antonio Community Justice Program (CJP) are two of three pro bono programs that will be honored this year. The awards will be presented at the Bar Leaders for Justice Conference in August and come with a $1000 prize to support each program.
The Hidalgo County CJP is a partnership between TRLA and the Hidalgo County Bar Foundation. The bi-monthly program relies on participation from local judges, court staff attorney volunteers, the District Clerk’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Department to help an average of 24 families in need of a divorce every month.
The San Antonio CJP is a partnership between TRLA and the San Antonio Bar that helps local residents with issues related to family law, wills and probate, veterans assistance, and nonprofit issues.
