TRLA intern Osvaldo Lopez has been recognized by the Marguerite Casey Foundation with the Sargent Shriver Youth Warriors Against Poverty Leadership Award.
The Marguerite Casey Foundation recognized 12 community leaders with the award in honor of their vision, passion and dedication to improving the lives of families in their communities. Each of the honorees receives an award of $5,000 in recognition of their leadership.
Lopez was nominated for the honor by the Rio Grande Valley Equal Voice Network for his work with TRLA’s farmworker team in helping develop a training program to educate workers about their legal rights. He is currently a student at the University of Texas Pan American.
This is the fourth year that Marguerite Casey Foundation has presented the Sargent Shriver Youth Warriors Against Poverty Leadership awards. The award is named for Sargent Shriver, architect of the War on Poverty and visionary leader of Head Start, Peace Corps, Job Corps and VISTA, who worked throughout his life to provide opportunities for people to lift themselves out of poverty.
