Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)’s Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault (LASSA) project is in full swing, confirming 4 partners in our new northwest service area and launching its new website this morning.
The LASSA project serves 182 Texas counties from the panhandle to the Texas-Mexico border. LASSA provides survivors of sexual assault with a wide-range of free legal services from general advice to holistic, direct representation on civil legal matters.
LASSA works directly with partner agencies, including rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters for community outreach, education, and cross-agency referrals. Annually, LASSA organizes a statewide sexual assault conference to provide training and education to project partners and allow advocates to learn from the leading experts on sexual assault and domestic violence.
In the last month, LASSA advocates have solidified relationships with four new partner agencies in our expanded service area: Abigail’s Arms – Cook County Family Crisis Center, Denton County Friends of the Family, Freedom House of Parker County, and Wise Hope Crisis Center. Over the next several months, TRLA’s LASSA team will continue to add partner agencies in northwest Texas and hire advocates throughout the region.
Survivors of sexual assault in need of legal assistance can contact the LASSA hotline at 1-800-991-5153.
Funding for the LASSA Project comes from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation.
