Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is proud to announce that, beginning Friday, April 1st, a new Medical Legal Partnership will open at Southeast Health and Wellness Center in Austin, TX.
Medical Legal Partnerships aim to improve the health and well-being of people and communities by leading health, public health and legal sectors in an integrated, upstream approach to combating health-harming social conditions.
Many times low-income individuals can be faced with chronic medical issues that are tied to legal issues. A child suffering from asthma, for example, may be exposed to moldy conditions that a landlord refuses to address. MLPs allow for medical care providers to identify these relationships and connect patients with lawyers who can help.
The Austin MLP will be TRLA’s fourth venture into these partnerships. TRLA currently has MLPs in Brownsville, San Antonio, and El Paso.
